Well we finally did it. We, meaning NATO and US forces in Afghanistan, have finally killed enough innocent civilians that the Afghan government is crying "uncle" and not to the Taliban either.
Afghan MPs are demanding that we put away our toys, go back to our garrisons and stay put unless we're invited to come out and play by the Afghan army. Their demands follow word that US air strikes took out another 21-innocents yesterday, about par for the course given that we're only in mid-week.
The good news is that we don't have to pay no mind to no uppity Afghan legislators. Why only today NATO Secretary General, Jaap "The Hoop" Scheffer, while meeting with Mushie in Pakistan, said NATO had no plans to clear out of Afghanistan because it's there under a UN mandate. I guess that's Scheffer's way of telling Kabul that we'll damn well kill who we please, when we please for as long as we please, thank you very much.

You are right, and it has been repeatedly said else where, we are not there to bring democracy, freedom and the rule of law, or those other niceties. That was originally the reason why NATO invaded under US command and control. That was all propaganda. They do not want us in the South or North or anywhere.

Not bullshit, it's called manslaughter or murder when you wongly kill an innocent civilian.
Time to get out! Were guilty by association, the American forces have become the most undisciplined armed force in the world.
There plainly is a problem with a few "trigger-happy" soldiers but the greater problem, in my view, is the force structure we've deployed (NATO & US) that too often leaves our soldiers dependent on heavy artillery and air strikes, especially against residential areas. These are WMDs (weapons of medium destruction) that kill anyone misfortunate enough to be within several hundred feet of where they happen to land. The type of construction used in Afghanistan makes them especially deadly to civilians. They're butchering civilians and, with it, killing our chances of weaning them away from supporting the Taliban. YOU CAN'T FIGHT AN INSURGENCY ON THE CHEAP.
