No "War Without End" for Canadians

A Decima Research poll finds that a solid, two-thirds of Canadians want our troops brought home from Afghanistan when "the mission" is scheduled to end in 2009. Barely a quarter think the mandate ought to be extended.
The poll shows that Stephen Harper is out of step with the Canadian people. The poll was released just as Harpo was discussing an extension of the mission with Jan Peter Balkenende, prime minister of the Netherlands.
Ever keen to ape his American Idol, Harpo said, "You know that we can't set arbitrary deadlines and simply wish for the best," last month during a visit with the troops in Kandahar.
Sorry Steve but 2009, the extension authorized by parliament, isn't some "arbitrary deadline." The Canadian people have realized this sorry business in Afghanistan just isn't worth it. They admire our troops and the job they've done and they think we have made a positive difference
in what Canada has done over there but they plainly don't agree as some war supporter pundits have claimed that Canada has "adopted" Afghanistan.
