The lunacy that passes for today's Republican elite are famished and grumpy - so famished and so grumpy that they've fallen back on that old conservative favourite, eating their own.
Poor George w. Bush. He's still got a year and a half remaining in his term and his once faithful followers have already put him on the spit over a roaring fire.
Last night's Daily Show ran clips of the likes of Brit Hume, Chris Wallace and Rush Dimbaugh liberally denouncing their once exalted leader as some kind of moron. Meanwhile, down the hall at the asylum in Ward B, another band of inmates, the bunch who are vying for Shrub's job, had a George Bush feeding frenzy of their own at last night's debate.
Apparently sensing the public's disgust with the diminutive Texan to whom they had once pledged their troth and fealty, one by one the candidates rose up in an outpouring of spiritual liberation to denounce the little peckerhead for his immigration policy as well as his screw-up in Iraq and his collapse of America's standing abroad.
The curious part was that the frontrunners all seem intent on ramping up the same aggressive foreign policy that Bush introduced. They're talking even greater unilateralism except they expect to do it with the support of their allies. Sound confusing? Well, I told you it's coming from the asylum.
