Another Great Reason Not to Vote Liberal

Justin Trudeau's unforgivable sin was when he broke his promise on electoral reform. That, and a decade of Stephen Harper, is what gifted him his false majority. Like Harper before him, Trudeau rode into power on an undemocratic vote, garnering the support of fewer than two out of five voters. He came to power without the informed consent of slightly more than three out of five electors.

But wait, there's still hope. Both the Greens and the NDP intend to campaign on electoral reform.
“In an era where so-called populists like Donald Trump or Doug Ford can get to power, it’s incredibly important that we ensure that no one can get power in Canada with less than the majority of the popular vote yet have 100 per cent of the power,” said May. “We must prevent that from ever happening by getting rid of first-past-the-post now, because it is the only election system, other than preferential voting, that allows that kind of distortion to happen when a party with a minority public support can gain a false majority.”
Our last, best hope may be to reduce the Liberals to a bare minority and force them to do what they promised or else fall. It's worth the risk.

I am not a legal expert so I am wondering if a voting system can be changed to pro-rep, can it not be changed back later?

Yes, Anon, it's within the power of Parliament to do that. It was Parliament, after all, that eventually, reluctantly extended the vote to women.

.. anything is possible in Canada..
ANYTHING !! Hell, look at Doug Ford or Jason Kenney, they just repeal or strip away existing laws.. and the past master was Stephen Harper stripping away Environmental Protect of OUR waters, sloughs, wetlands, creeks, streams, rivers - You know.. to streamline red tape re fracking or tar sands or mining or log stripping.. ANYTHING to get our resources to market (that was the late saint Jim Flaherty's only real job.. convening his annual CEO 'retreat' at OUR expense to gather the wish & dream list of megacorporate entities - worried about trashing waters in the way of the road to 'tidewater'. and report back to Stephen Harper and Ray Novak.. so they could direct Peter Kent and Joe Oliver among many others like Oceans & Fisheries or Agriculture what new non-laws needed tabling under a majority gained seemingly via Election Fraud

Hell of a scam that.. OK it was 'just' 240 ridings impacted as the federal judge ruled.. Sadly, when Ol Saint Jim collapsed in his Ottawa condo, only Kellie Leitch was there to do mouth to mouth kiss of life and uh... well she failed. This shit is legend now.. as is Ray Novak living in the Harper garage.. Stephen Lecce following in Ray's footsteps.. both straight outta Western poli sci - Ray to Laureen n Stevie & Lecce right to Julian Fantino's riding - back to PMO - Back to Fantino's riding, the infamous woodchipper legal beagle Arthur Hamilton trashing - blaming Michael Sona, the Election Voter Data access logs.. the Admin ones altered.. RCMP flubs it all, forget to really grill the red goatee guy or Jenni Burne as Fantino's riding disperses bags of $ to other ridings & runs two sets of books & bank accounts (Fantino now immersed in profit from legal pot now.. haha) The lovely Ms Rhona Ambrose boating with the dude on his megayacht who runs the late great Mt Polley disaster - never a criminal charge - haha, 'polluter pays' .. right. Just change laws retroactively.. including the law about changing laws retroactively..

I support MMPR, but alot of core Liberal voters don't because they can't use the Tories as a booey man to black mail voters into voting Liberal in a MMPR system and without that they have nothing.

As the post is about voting ... this is not completely off-topic. ;-)

All those folks slagging EC should read this:

"Why Environmental Groups’ Attack on Elections Canada Is Wrong, and Dangerous

Parliament passed third party spending laws to curb the influence of big money in campaigns. Do enviros want to end that?"

Dippers and Greens could've had ranked ballots. But they said FPTP was better and sided with the Cons during the electoral reform committee.

(Trudeau actually allotted committee seats based on proportional representation meeting a request made by the Dippers. Which just goes to show PR gives radicals too much power and nothing gets done: since they can't have it all, they get nothing.)

It will be fun watching NDP and Green seats go to the Liberals this election. (Looks like some major vote-splitting is going to give either the Libs or Cons an easy fake majority.)

Before they didn't deserve it. Now they do!

(Fair Vote Canada is based on the UK Electoral Reform Society model: botching electoral reform for over a century! Like a broken clock with the hands fallen off: can't even get it right twice a day!)

Anon, or should I call you Peter, JT could have introduced preferential balloting if he chose. It was his to do. Don't make excuses for him. He wanted to play the fake majority game, even if it means alternating power with the Cons every second term or so.

Sorry, but he doesn't give a flying fuck about genuine democracy. If the majority of Canadians' voices aren't heard that's perfectly fine with Justin and his alter-ego, Scheer.

Nice campaign slogan this year - "Deeper, Harder, Faster." Good reminder that we're in for yet another screwing.

With all of the above comments, I still ask, what is wrong with "Democracy" when it is full of black loop hole? This democracy thing is becoming a mockery of the word. Anyong

There ought not to be any "repeal" of laws that aide our Constitution in a progressive manner. Anyong
