The Sea Shepherd vessel, Robert Hunter, mixed things up with the Japanese whaler, Kaiko Maru, in the Antarctic today, colliding twice in clashes over a pod of whales.
It appears the Hunter was trying to run across the Kaiko's bow to get between whaler and whales when the protest ship was struck in the stern. No injuries were reported on either vessel but the Hunter claimed to have sustained a 3-foot gash in her stern above the waterline.
"The attack was like that of a pirate, with people on one boat throwing warning flares and a rope in an attempt to entangle our ship's propeller," a Japanese fisheries officer, Hideki Moronuki said. The Kaiko Maru was forced to stop.

I find whaling repellent and entirely necessary; they are slaughtering peaceful and immensely intelligent creatures for no real reason.

No argument about your take on whales. The problem is that our governments refuse to take effective action to deter the Japanese leaving it to organizations like Greenpeace and Sea Sheperd to do what they can. They don't really have a lot of options but...
