Keep A Little Perspective

It sounds a lot worse than it probably is. An investigation - two actually - are underway into allegations that three Afghans detained by Canadian forces were worked over, supposedly while under interrogation.

The only people who know what happened were those who were present. The rest of it is speculation.

Three prisoners were reported to have upper body and head injuries - bruises and cuts. How mild or severe those injuries actually were remains to be discovered.

The Military Complaints Commission has begun investigating both the injuries sustained by the captives and also why Canadian military police failed to conduct their own investigations at the time.

This isn't Somalia. Prisoners haven't died at Canadian hands and there's been no indication that any of them were seriously harmed.

Unlike Somalia, we've put our soldiers into a shooting war this time. Canadian servicemen - and women - have lost their lives to an enemy that too often attacks and vanishes. It's a swamp that breeds anger and frustration. It's a swamp of parliament's making. What did they - or any of us - expect?

3 afghans were detained by canadian soldiers. after being interrogated they came out covered in cuts and bruises. the rest of it is speculation??? ;-)

but they weren't "seriously harmed" so it's ok, right??? what did we expect??? i guess not an adherence to the geneva conventions and the rule of law...this is war after all.

rolling back or moving forward the tide of extremism??? methinks you should self-reflect to "keep a little perspective".

I've never suggested that what happened is ok as you claim. Not at all. How could I? I don't know what the facts are only the very vague account that has been reported. "Keeping perspective" in this case means not getting your panties in a bunch until we know what happened and remembering that there's a huge difference between being roughed up and being beaten to death.
