US Army Lt. Ehren Watada's court-martial was scrubbed today when the presiding judge declared a mistrial.
The judge said Watada did not fully understand the document he signed that admitted the elements of the charges he faced.
Earlier today Watada's counsel told the court-martial that the lieutenant never intended to admit he had a duty to go to Iraq with his fellow soldiers one element of the crime of missing troop movement.
The essence of Watada's intended defence is that the Iraq war was illegal and, hence, he was not obliged to serve in it.
