There's no doubt about it. The US War on Terror is a Red State war. Here, in descending order, are the states with the highest, per capita casualty rates in Iraq:
Vermont - 2.88 deaths per 100,000
South Dakota
North Dakota
Alaska
Nebraska
Louisiana
Wyoming
Delaware
Montana
Mississippi
Oklahoma
Oregon
Kentucky
Arkansas
Iowa
And here, beginning with the lowest, are the states with the lowest per capita casualty rates:
D.C. - 0.52 deaths per 100,000
Utah
New Jersey
Puerto Rico
Connecticut
Massacheusetts
Florida
New York
California
Illinois
There are exceptions at both ends but, on a strictly per capita basis, the Red States are losing far more sons than the Blue States. A young man in Vermont is more than five times more likely to die in Iraq than a young man in the District of Columbia.
