The House of Commons has passed by 143-138 an NDP motion to ban oil tanker traffic off British Columbia's north coast. It's a symbolic thing, important even though it's not binding on the Harper government.
For British Columbians, who overwhelmingly oppose the Enbridge tanker port proposal for Kitimat, the vote will be important to smoke out the parliamentary rapscallions who support the tanker proposal. I suspect there'll be a number of Tory MPs out here who just ran afoul of their constituents on an issue we don't take lightly.
Now if the NDP can just publish a list of the nay votes.
