Former White House aide Sara Taylor is testifying before a senate committee about the lawyers' scandal. Her testimony included this telling exchange between Taylor and Senator Patrick Leahy:
"I took an oath to the president, and I take that oath very seriously," Sara Taylor said in answer to a question early in the hearing.
Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) asked her if she was sure about that. "Did you mean, perhaps, you took an oath to the Constitution?" Leahy asked. It was a telling exchange.
"I know that the president refers to the government being his government -- it's not," Leahy reminded her.

That is just utterly frightening and stunningly hilarious at the same time.
It reminds me of the political appointees of Bush who attempted to blatantly use their offices to promote Bush during the last predidential election by trying to steer the federal offices to "think outside the box" on how they could help "their" candidate in the election. Anyone - and I mean anyone - who has worked in government in the US is taught about the Hatch Act, which prohibits political uses of federal positions.
But when nailed on it, they inevitably claimed that "being new to government work, having come from the private sector," they just weren't "familiar" with the law.
These people really do not have the ability - or desire - to understand a healthy functioning democracy. They just know where their blind loyalties lie (double entendre on the word "lie")
