General Amnesty in Afghanistan

It's probably a bright move because, one way or another, a lot of Afghans, including legislators, could be charged with some sort of war crime. The country's 25-year civil war was rife with killing and atrocities on all sides.

The immunity granted by the Afghan parliament would also extend to current fugitives such as the Taliban's infamous Mullah Omar and former prime minister Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, who now heads his own militant group.

The amnesty comes just days after president Hamid Karzai renewed his offer, plea perhaps, for negotiations with the Taliban.
