A New Boss for NATO in Afghanistan

On Sunday, control of the NATO mission in Afghanistan falls to an American as British General David Richards hands over the reins to US Army General Dan McNeil. The incoming commander is expected to put his own stamp on the NATO mission, bring a new approach to tackling the Taliban insurgency.

The handover comes just as British and Afghan forces are mustering to retake Musa Qala which was recently overrun by Taliban fighters. About four months ago the Brits negotiated a ceasefire in the town under which the Brits and the Taliban left although it's been widely reported that the Taliban never really left. The move was criticized as a NATO retreat.

A Taliban spokesman claims NATO broke the ceasefire by an aerial attack just outside the village late last month that killed a Taliban leader.
