25th - That's the Silver Anniversary, Isn't It?

The 25th anniversary is a big deal. It's a milestone, isn't it? Family, friends, everybody celebrates someone's 25th.

The global community of nations is marking a 25th anniversary event in Spain right now but there doesn't seem to be much celebrating. Maybe that's because on this, the 25th UN climate summit, there's not much to celebrate.

After a quarter century of deeply shared concerns and solemn promises, man-made greenhouse gas emissions have reached an all-time (for now) high level. Atmospheric GHG loading is far higher than ever in the history of mankind.

After a quarter century, we're told those GHG emissions are only going up for at least the next twenty years.

After a quarter century, scientists (the best of the lot) are warning that we may have triggered so many tipping points that we might have crossed the point of no return. Nine identified tipping points have already gone "active" and present an existential risk of a cascade.

After a quarter century of feigned sincerity, Canada has just restarted construction of the climate-wrecking Justin Trudeau Memorial Pipeline intended to flood world markets with the worst ersatz petroleum on the planet, bitumen.

How's that for a Silver Anniversary?
