Is Dion Going for Broke?

According to the Globe & Mail, Stephane Dion wants to bring down the Harper government in February.

The paper reports that Dion wants to take advantage of what he feels will be the fallout of the Mulroney/Schreiber affair and get to the polls before the Conservatives can bring in another budget.

I guess it's really a no-lose situation for Liberal supporters. It'll give Dion a chance to refute his critics and, if not, it'll clear the way for a new leader. I don't see any particular downside either way.

Well going on right now...

1: The Mulroney thing going on (With more on the way I'm sure).
2: The growing Onterio objection to C-22.
3: The municipalities not being particularily happy.
4: Near parity in the polls

Seems like as good a set-up as is likely to happen anytime soon. Might as well pull the trigger in the new year before the Tories are able to really unleash the power of the purse.

Oh "Gawd"! Just what we need another ineffective person to try and run the country. Get rid of Dion and put someone else with much more capability before we plunge the country into another election with the same results as has happened with the present government. Just because Dion is a Liberal doesn't mean he has the capacity to govern this country. He's just as wishy washy as Harper. What a mess this countries government is in period!

When the last budget came down, the Liberal spin was "Dion has correctly read the tea leaves, and Canadians don't want an election right now." When do they really want an election? Right before they get another break on their taxes from the current government. Too funny. Seriously, you guys are too funny.

WTF! Is the Kool Aid especially strong today?

Yes the Libs better call it before the next budget, because after the budget they won't have a snowballs chance in hell (not that they do anyway).

'Snowball's chance in hell' was the last budget, which didn't seem to launch your bundle of copious turds into majority territory. Not even bribing quebecers with our money could get Harper's pet walrus a majority. People see thru Harper and his meanspirited ways. I'm betting there'll be a CON leadership race before a Liberal one...

It's amusing that the Cons think that the budget surpluses created by the Liberals - and even Harpo has admitted that - are some great Tory achievement. I think Pipe's right - people are coming to see through Harper and his base of extremists. A recent study here in BC showed an overwhelming majority would oppose Harper if they thought he might get a majority otherwise. Of course, as some of his base have admitted, Harpo's job is to lull the Canadian people into believing him a moderate so that he can get a majority and spring a fiercely social conservative agenda on the country. By the way, that's how tyrants behave.
