Pakistani strongman, Pervez Musharraf, told the New York Times, that his state of emergency, including the imprisonment of 2,500 opposition party workers, lawyers and human rights advocatese, is essential in order for Pakistan to ensure free and fair elections in January.
Mushie added that he finds Bhutto confrontational and hard to work with:
“You come here on supposedly on a reconciliatory mode, and right before you land, you’re on a confrontationist mode,” he said. “I am afraid this is producing negative vibes, negative optics.”
Asked when he'll end the state of emergency, Musharraf replied, “I don’t know, I don’t know. We need to see the environment.”
