It's Complicated

In 2002 Maher Arar was introduced to torture by a Syrian colonel. He was tuned up pretty good.

Arar thought he was coming home to Toronto. The RCMP and the CIA thought otherwise. The RCMP volunteered some spurious information to the CIA. The Americans figured Arar could use a bout of "special rendition" and delivered him into the hands of the Syrians in order for him to be tortured. That Syrian guy? He was the CIA's instrument for torturing Arar.

Eventually we got Arar back, paid him a bunch of money, and just hoped the whole thing would go away.

Now, however, the RCMP has charged that Syrian colonel with torture and is seeking his extradition. Good luck with that. I don't think that Bashir Assad is in any mood to do Canada favours right now.

So why aren't we charging the culprits on our side of the ocean, the guys who facilitated Arar's torture? Oh yes, what am I thinking? That road leads back to the RCMP.

Mound, what can we expect from Harper. Incompetence or he does not give a damn. Sad!

Another false claim that Harper can tout on his invitation only campaign, that he is a man who pursues justice. What a joke! I am convinced that they really think Canadians are stupid!

Anyong said.....Well Pamela...."I am convinced that they really think Canadians are stupid!" Not bad, not bad at all. However, I have to say, there are an awful lot of Canadians where I am located, that are stupid. Such as, "I've always voted Conservative and I will die Conservative" "Could we discuss how the Conservative Platform applies to the present campaign?" "What do you mean"? That says it all...and, many Canadians happen to be ill informed when it comes to "Platform" and the true issues that are affecting Canadians across the country. And while I am at it, someone tell the Green "Weather Lady", Canada reaches beyond the province of Nova Scotia. It is "Idiotic" that a weather person doesn't know that.
