I finally took the CBC's Vote Compass test. All these years I thought I was a centre-left Liberal. Apparently not.
The Vote Compass verdict? I'm a Green. Not a near Green but an "on the money" Green. Not that it's the same as coming out of the closet or anything but I've had a nagging feeling in recent years that I had Green inclinations.
Which is not to say that I'll never be a Liberal again. In fact I believe the Green movement is naturally suited to the Liberal Party if it wants to embrace sound environmentalism. If, however, the LPC intends to remain resolute Bitumen Boosters they're politically unacceptable to me and, I'm sure, plenty of others.
It's unfortunate the Green movement is forging ahead at a time when the Libs desperately need every vote they can find. If Ignatieff would champion the environment instead of the Tar Sands he might find those extra votes handy.

I, too, thought I was centre-left, but it turns out I'm so far left it makes my head spin, equidistant between the Greens and the Dippers. But then, what do I know.
it says i'm green too - mostly because the questionnaire doesn't have the nuance to address the military and Afghanistan issues to reflect my thoughts

So, instead of bitterly cursing & yet still clinging to your ex's name, why not assert your own identity and change your blog's name to your own?

I'm green too, and I'd vote for them if they had a chance of winning anything...
I live in one of those ridings where no party seriously challenges the sitting Tory MP, utterly useless as he has been since first elected back in Preston's day. The only reason our guy is a backbencher is that there's nowhere more remote to seat him. I'm not even sure Mr. Cheney, er Harper, knows his name.
In this riding we don't even see the first opposition lawn sign until the election is in the third period. I might even consider strategic voting if it might make a difference - but it won't.
According to that compass, I'm an evul separatist Bloquiste. I'm kinda proud of the designation, actually. Kinda reinforces a bad girl image I've been meaning to do.
When I lived in Ahuntsic, I actually did vote for the Bloc's Maria Mourani.
Of course you're Green, MoS. Was there ever any doubt? I'm Green too, but then I've known that for quite awhile. Will vote strategic ABC, because if Harper gets his majority we are truly lost.
I guess I yearn for a world in which the Liberal Party was compatible with liberalism and could, without contradiction, embrace the Green's environmentalism. Even Lizzie May acknowledges the only path to an environmental turnaround in Canada is through the LPC. Some how the Liberal Party has to be turned away from the centre-right path on which it has been so ruinously steered by the current management.
