There's a lot of money in oil but, for those raking in the bounty, it's never enough. That leads Big Oil to act in curious ways including waging war on whistle blowers. Greg Palast explores BP's sordid history in Alaska. It's definitely worth a read here.

Holy shit. The things we didn't/don't know. How can they get away with this?
Big Oil, like Big Coal, has a history of getting away with this sort of thing and they owe much of their success to a compliant political class.
Penlan, read Marsden's book "Stupid to the Last Drop" and then ask yourself what to make of the current crop of political Tar Sands boosters, the Fossil Fuelers in high places in both the CPC and LPC.
I'll order the book tomorrow from my fave local bookshop. I find all of these things horrifying & that the political class, ours included, favours all these big corporations is abominable.
What is it going to take for the average person to wake up & see exactly what's going on here. Even this huge oil spill in the Gulf isn't getting much coverage here anymore. It is in the States. Out of sight, out of mind.
It may be excessive cynicism but I don't sense that the average person is especially interested in seeing what's going on. We've created a culture in which awareness of these things is not encouraged. Illusion rules!
