Hard to know what to make of this. A Russian general, Nikolai Makarov, has warned that
Russia will use force against Poland and Romania if NATO deploys a planned missile radar/interceptor in eastern Europe.
''A decision to use destructive force pre-emptively will be taken if the situation worsens,'' he said.
While Russian officials have said previously that the anti-missile sites
could become targets in the event of war, the threat of a pre-emptive
attack was new.
General Makarov has threatened to target NATO bases hosting an
anti-missile system designed by the US to protect European allies
against attack from states such as Iran.
Makarov is Russia's Chief of General Staff.
