Rudolph Giuliani is joining Trump's legal team dealing with the Mueller investigation.
Curiously enough, I wrote a post on Rudi and his involvement with the Clinton email scandal two days ago.
It turns out Giuliani was also the subject of several references in James Comey's new book, "A Higher Loyalty."
In his interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Comey did say he was aware that Giuliani was on TV in 2016 predicting surprise developments from the FBI just before the November election. Giuliani’s comments suggested he was privy to the discovery of more Clinton emails on a laptop belonging to former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), which the FBI got while investigating him on charges of sexting with a minor.
“Yes, I saw that,” Comey said. “It’s part of what I ordered investigated.”
At a Senate hearing last year, days before Comey was fired, he was also asked specifically about leaks to Giuliani. Comey was careful not to accuse Giuliani of anything and said it wasn’t clear whether people at the FBI were leaking to him.
“I don’t know yet,” Comey told Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.). “But if I find out that people were leaking information about our investigations, whether it’s to reporters or to private parties, there will be severe consequences. … It’s a matter that I’m very, very interested in.”It's reported that Giuliani's new role will be to advise Trump on ways he can bring the Mueller investigation to an early end.
Now we get a rude and a reckless
We been seen lookin' cool an' speckless
We been drinking brew for breakfast
Rudie can't fail
“I’m doing it because I hope we can negotiate an end to this for the good of the country and because I have high regard for the president and for Bob Mueller,” Giuliani said.
Sounds like Rudy's working on a plea bargain. That's the only way I know of to negotiate an end to a criminal investigation that by now will have collected a mountain of evidence against the client. Some community service in exchange for dropping the charges ain't gonna cut much ice with Bobby Three Sticks.
I understand that Gulliani used to work as an Attorney for the Southern District of New York. One has to wonder who's on his rolodex.
Cap, I don't place a lot of credence in what Rudi says for public consumption. Mueller's mandate is pretty clear. Rudi doesn't get to abridge that and both he and Mueller know that. I would bet he's more interested in subverting the investigation or derailing it somehow.
During the campaign, Owen, there were rumours that Rudi was essentially steering the New York FBI field office to get Clinton. I was watching CNN when Rudi boastfully let slip what had to be inside information on the emails. When the inevitable follow up question came about how he knew so much Giuliani realized the mess he had put himself in and began back peddling as fast as his little legs would permit.
Here's another little Trump/Giuliani bombshell. It contends Rudy was instrumental in derailing a money laundering investigation into Trump, among other things.
