No, I'm not talking about Mona Ambrose, erstwhile nursemaid to the wallowing wounded remains of the Conservative Party. She definitely is a dead loss.
It's the other Rona, the hardware chain, that's doing fine. That's thanks to what appears to be a successful takeover bid by American giant, Lowe's. It seems that Lowe's wants to go head to head with that other American giant, Home Despot, up here north of the 49th (sorry, Leamington).
Curious that. Mona, Rona - they both remind me of garden tools.

How much you want to bet that'll be the end of finding Robertson screws and drivers?
Yet more hollowing out.
Losing the Robertson screw would be, to Canada, the equivalent of the ravens leaving the Tower of London.
One more Canadian company gobbled up by foreigners. Isn't Free Trade wonderful?
I'm slowly making my way through three books, Toby. One by John Ralston Saul, another by James Galbraith, the last by Philip Mirowski. They all focus on neoliberalism, the cult of market fundamentalism and the myth of free trade. One thing that comes through is that neoliberalism, market fundamentalism and free trade, as practiced today, are faith based ideology and very little more. Taken together, they're tantamount to a religion only it's one in which the High Priests have long since stopped believing. They don't have to believe so long as most of us do.
Mound, while Ralston-Saul and others are correct that neoliberalism is intellectually bereft, it hasn't stopped its adherents from persevering. They keep spouting the same old non-sense and we let them get away with it.
