Records Upon Records

In 2011 the United States set a record for record-breaking weather-related events.    Record rainfall, record snowfall, record temperatures, record FEMA-declared natural disasters, record wildfires, and record drought.   There were 3,251 records smashed in all, itself an all time record.

And then came 2012.   Last year there were 3,527 monthly records broken, a new record number of broken records.   If you want to see what that many records looks like, the Natural Resources Defense Council has published a lovely interactive map.

Now hurry up and eat your bitumen before it gets cold.
