I visited Liblogs this morning to find that my post about Hamas and human shields was gone.
I assume that Jason Cherniak's delusional interpretation that what I wrote somehow justified or sanctioned the odious practice led to the removal.
I'm sorry but I'm not pro-Israel but I refuse to let anyone claim that makes me pro-Hamas. That's the approach of the Cherniak/Kinsella/Levant movement.
So I'm parting company with Liblogs but I'll remain with Progressive Bloggers so long as they'll have me. If you're looking for my stuff, you can find it there.
Adios.

Being new to reading blogs, I add yours to my favourites..
When Cherniak is involved, you had to know that was coming.
I wonder if Ezra will stand up for your freedom of speech on this?
Oh that's right, its only freedom of speech when it slags Muslims...I for got.
Hey ML, Hi Mike. I suppose I should have seen it coming. Jason Cherniak is amazingly phobic of any criticism of Israel to the point that he couldn't even grasp what I'd written. But Liblogs is his site and he does have the option to get rid of anyone he likes.
I'll bet I will find some way to live without him.
Cherniak has turned Liblogs into an instrument of Israeli foreign policy. That's really all there is to it.
Dawg, Cherniak is only building on what Ignatieff has done to the Liberal Party itself.
Welcome to the Progressive Liberal Party of Canada! :)
I swear, from the derision being heaped upon you and me and James and LeDaro and so many others, from both the right (for criticizing Israel) and the left (for not joining the NDP), maybe we really should consider starting our own aggregator, if not our own party.
The only thing keeping me from burning my membership card right now is the thought of what would happen if we were all to abandon the Liberal Party to the likes of Cherniak, Kinsella and Ignatieff. Damn it, it's our party too!
Unbelievable. Time for somebody with some technical aptitude to present another option.
I hear you Jennifer. I think it's good for all of us to know the real Michael Ignatieff, what he stands for and the measure of his principles.
There's a reason that rightwing nutjob Kelly McParlan over at the National Post is singing the praises of Ignatieff and it's a reason that doesn't bode well for any party that calls itself liberal.
I can't believe all this censorship at Liblogs now. I, too, think it's time for a new aggregator. But I know nothing & have no skills on how to do it.
And I'm really unhappy with Iggy & what seems to be happening right now with the Lib party. Time for changes.
MoS I have you bookmarked so will always be able to find you. :)
You're in good company.
Hey Jennife and MoS: As an NDPer I would like to ask you to consider our party. I do so because I believe that truly progressive Liberals would feel more at home with us than with the LPC. I hope you don't take that as a criticism.
I am really disappointed to hear this. I know it has happenned with others as well, but with yours I'll finally set up my own favorites to check out.
I really like your posts tremendously and look forward to continuing to read them.
I do hope an alternative blog-roll can be started up.
The important thing is that we know with certainty that we are still dealing with the same Ignatieff who believed in the Iraq war.
I don't think there's any doubt on that point Greg.
Did you voluntarily walk away from Liblogs because of a difference of opinion with Cherniak, et. al. and a perceived rightward shift in the party connected to the new leadership of Michael Ignatieff and positions that you disagree with relative to Israel, or were you actually “censored” and “booted” from the aggregator? Sorry, I’m just trying to understand what actually happened here.
As far as I'm concerned I got the boot. Even my post on why Hamas uses human shields was deleted. Cherniak was so deranged that he took it to mean that I was justifying or condoning the practice.
Let's put it this way, I was actually surprised to find I'd been turfed.
Sorry Cicely but I don't think I'd be any more welcome in the NDP than I am with some Liberals. The NDP is simply too far left for me. I'm an avowed centrist - who just happens to find himself without a party he wants to support.
You didn't answer my question, but instead gave me your final impression of what had apparently happened here. I want to know what ACTUALLY occurred, not your opinion or reaction to it. Sorry, but I'm just looking for the facts.
MoS: you might be surprised by who is in the NDP and what their opinions are. I can only say that I can't think of one post you have written (other than those defending the LPC) that I have disagreed with. I think that if you throw away the labels and looked at the policies you might find that that we aren't so scary. No political party will ever be a perfect reflection of our personal beliefs, so I don't doubt you will be able to find some points of contention I look for which party best reflects most of my beliefs. Again, I can only base my assessment of you by your blog but you sound like most of my dipper friends :)
I'm an NDP supporter who is not afraid to take jabs at some of their policy positions. But I do NOT take any pleasure in seeing the LPC destroyed. To me, a fulsome democracy means more than two dominant parties and I really don't think that the NDP's goal should be to replace the Liberal Party. I think there is more than ample room for all our current parties and strongly believe that the electorate would benefit from a PR system.
That said, I am very sorry to see what it happening to the LPC from within. My spouse and many of my friends are long-time Liberal supporters and they feel at a loss. There is no way on earth they will support Harper or Layton and yet they are left with Ignatieff, who is proving to be a real poison pill. I do not relish their dismay in their party. And I fear for the outcome: less people voting in the next election.
It's a real shame that Ignatieff came onto the scene with so many backroom supporters. A cynic might even be inclined to believe that he was recruited by Tom Flanagan.
Speaking for myself I'm only a Dipper because I disagree with the NDP less than any other party. Like any party there's a right, left and center. An environmental wing, a labour wing - even a business wing. Take a look at some of the moderate and centrist Dipper provincial governments like Manitoba before you dismiss us as too left for you.
The party platform is a good place to start - but don't think there isn't tugging from several different ideological directions within the party.
But stay with the Liberals and try to push them towards policy positions you believe in if thats where you believe you can make the most difference. It's an honorable choice.
If there is an essential difference between the Libs and NDP maybe its just a greater respect for a diverse membership. Human rights are absolute, a belief in equality and justice and the government's role in promoting those values are core ideals.
Everything else is open to honest debate between people of good will - perhaps after the last few days that would sem like a refreshing change?
Thanks Cliff. I appreciate your encouragement.
cheers

I agree with you BUT they are NOT listening to the grassroots members of the Party - only to those in the "higher" echelons - so it's useless.

For the 1st time in my life I joined a political party - the Liberal one - after the last election. Prior to that I considered myself an Independent, left-leaning progressive. It was Dion who drew me to the Party as I was impressed with his integrity.
I now feel completely let down, cannot stand Ignatieff because I don't trust him. I didn't before but was willing to give him a chance. He's blown it. And it's these same backroom supporters of his that did not help Dion & the party since Dion became leader, nor prior to & during the election. The results of the election MIGHT have been different if everyone had pulled together for the good of this country & it's people. After all, isn't that what it's supposed to be all about?
So, now, like many others I am floundering, in a sense. I shall most likely return to being Independent. I cannot support what I do not believe in. And these blogger wars going on at Liblogs & Cherniaks actions & statements have made me feel sick.
