Lovelock Coming to Toronto

He's one of the foremost environmental scientists of our era, the man who literally sounded the alarm and drove the debate on global warming. Dr. James Lovelock himself is coming to Toronto on May 26 for a lecture sponsored by Corporate Knights. Tickets are $75. Details at the Corporate Knights web site - www.corporateknights.ca.

Lovelock will be explaining the thesis of his latest book "The Vanishing Face of Gaia."

Is he from out of the country? If so wonder if the Cons will not allow him in.

Yes, he's from the southwest of England. Yoevil perhaps. Home of the astonishingly lethal scrumpy cider.

Never heard of scrumpy cider - but it sounds evil.
;)

It is. Waste apples piled in a farm yard. I think they ferment from the heat of the sun and natural rotting. They they're processed into a really cloudy cider that is deceptively potent but quite tasty. Too much for too long, it is said, will utterly rot out your pipes.

Hmmm - let's send jugs of the stuff as gifts to all the Con MP's then. That'll keep their mouths shut, rot their vocal pipes, then the rest of them & we'll be free again. Now I'm being evil.

Yes, I believe you are. Here's something to consider. What might the Conservative caucus look like without Harper as their goatherder? They've been jumping to his orders so long I wonder how liberation would affect them?

Without Harper I think it would be a nightmare. All the weirdness will come out of the woodwork completely as there isn't anyone to keep a lid on them - those that are similar to Rob Anders, eg. They would lose HUGELY in the next election. All the right-wing nutters, which is a lot of them, would be spewing forth utterances that would be beyond the pale. Might be fun.

Plus I think we would see complete disarray & terrible infighting. As I said, might be fun.

Have you read the report published by the Corporate Knights group regarding the state of pollution in Canada?

B.C. greenest province in Canada, PEI brownest, says Earth Day report card

"The first ever Green Provincial Report Card issued by the independent Corporate Knights group looked at 10 environmental categories, including greenhouse gases, green energy, water use, biodiversity and car dependency."

Cheers, A. Morris

I had a look at their web site. Apparently we were first but they still gave us only a C+.

Do you happen to know if his lecture will be recorded and posted online? Or available for streaming? Thanks for the tip,

take care, Elli

Sorry Elli but no idea. You could give Corporate Knights a call. If you can find out anything, please post it. A lot of us out here in the boonies would appreciate getting access to it.

Cheers
