Whaaat? Steve Bannon Booted Off National Security Council

Well this is certainly awkward. White House ventriloquist and Trump puppeteer-in-chief, Steve Bannon, has lost his seat on Trump's National Security Council. Loose lips sink ships, perhaps? Stay tuned.

Well the headline missed this part which is just as important as the demise of Bannon
"The new memo also restores the director of national intelligence and the Joint Chiefs chairman to the principals committee."

This is the most significant tRump news since the Health Care loss.

The deep (dark) state* rears it head. It may be a short term win with regards to delaying World War III - but exposes how little the 'democracy thing' means in the USA today.

(*which is not the same as the professional civil service lampooned in Yes Minister, btw)

I don't get it, NPoV. Do you have some problem with the DNI or the Joint Chiefs chairman serving on the National Security Council? Is that evidence to you of some deep corruption of American democracy? What's your point?

Does this mean that Bannon no longer has Trump's ear?

"What's your point?"

Two points actually.
1) This is significant news. (Unlike the Russia-gate distractions.)

2) We may be relieved that the 'adults' are asserting power over a the immature, malignant tRump cabal. ..... BUT it does reveal just who is in power in this world.

It is these same 'adults' that
* orchestrated the Orange coup in Ukraine recently (which left Putin with no rational choice other than the Crimea takeover)
* weaponized all sides in Syria depending on which fickle objective they had at any given moment
* who likely helped the Dems crush Bernie,
* who provided the 'proof' of WMD in Iraq and
* funded bin Laden's startup
* murdered 500k leftists in Indoneseia and
* put the Shah in power in Iran.
(partial list only of course)

Good gawd. I can't imagine how NPoV navigates his days.

NPoV, the National Security Council is the natural forum for those who must advise the president about the nation's security/intelligence/defence matters. DNI and the chairman of JCS are essential to that function. This is not part of some Deep State conniving as you seem to suggest.

Most of your list of cardinal sins involved the CIA, not DNI or JCS. The ginned up Iraq WMD business was the handiwork of Cheney's alternate intelligence apparatus - Libby, Perle, Wolfowitz, Feith and company.

"likely helped the Dems crush Bernie" another conspiracy theory, NPoV?

To listen to you one would have to imagine all of this litany of mayhem was conducted without political approval, direction or even knowledge. Do you really believe that acts such as the 53 coup in Iran was a rogue operation or, perhaps, the funding of the mujis during the Russian occupation of Afghanistan? You don't seem to grasp how political power is exercised in Washington.

P.S. This piece by Robert Parry is the most succinct description of the US foreign policy I saw in a long time...

Interesting to discover people who think having Bannon on the NSC was a good thing. Especially the bunch who think it was a good idea to have Bannon on the council and the director of national intelligence and the chairman of the joint chiefs excluded. It's all so Deep State, isn't it? Can you feel the depth? Oh, deep, deep, so very deep. You sure you guys didn't get your notions of governance from the Khmer Rouge?

Also interesting to find people so enamoured of a former KGB Lieutenant Colonel. I wonder when the enamouration began.
