At the barber shop this morning I got an earful of nonsense about the Paris attacks, about Trudeau doing everything wrong, about awful immigrants (Syrian, East Indian) gang warfare and how Harper did such a good job. Very little actual facts. One wonders how the eternal gabfest creates the fantasy.
One thing is obvious: if the Paris attacks had happened two days before the Canadian election Harper would have another majority.
Let that sink in for a couple of minutes and then breathe a deep sigh of relief.

As unbelievable as it may sound, you can almost hear the collective pissed off attitude of the Cons over the timing. I hope that the Prime Minister doesn't waiver. Stop the bombing campaign and limit the security checks to those normally undertaken for refugee claimants.
Had that thought Friday evening about 10 minutes into my awareness of what what happening in Paris.
" limit the security checks to those normally undertaken for refugee claimants"
Nope. Never heard of "sleepers?"
There is no shortage of refugees in need.
A..non
Ever thought that the evidence found to connect a refugee with a bomber - the fully intact passport amid everybodies body parts may have been a false flag.
Limiting security checks is a bad idea.
However, there are thousands of already pre-screened refugees waiting for a new home. These are who Trudeau is focussed on. They're sitting in camps waiting... and waiting ... and waiting.
Another passport was found at the site of a terrorist attack. Geez. How convenient. There wasn't enough rubble at the World Trade Center to account for the 2 buildings but, gee, there was a whole, intact passport.
Anyong said: In Edmonton there are 2,300 homeless people living on the street. A barber has raised $15,000 to bring a refugee to Canada. What is wrong with that scenario? And, if a person had a bowl full of M&Ms and 10% of them are poisoned, would they take a handful and eat them??
It says, Anyong, that if the government had the will to implement a comprehensive housing policy for those 2300 homeless Edmontonians, Canadians would welcome it and pay for it.
Your analogy about M&Ms is a bit more cogent. But the analysis of the risk is all wrong. Some refugees (if we bring in sufficient numbers) are going to be very bad seeds. But no terrorist attack is actually going to fatally poison the Canadian state. That rare apple might cause a stomach upset, and then the next hour you'll be fine.
Anyong said @ crf.....There isn't one thing wrong with asking PM Trudeau to think of security first. No doubt his advisors think this. That is the meaning of M&Ms. "Some refugees (if we bring in sufficient numbers) are going to be very bad seeds. But no terrorist attack is actually going to fatally poison the Canadian state. That rare apple might cause a stomach upset, and then the next hour you'll be fine." Those rare apples in Paris caused more than a stomach upset.
Has there ever been a distinct group come in that we didn't paint as some sort of threat?
