Rice Warns Iraq is No Sure Thing

Talk about tearing the guts out of John McCain's strongest campaign narrative. US State Secretary Condi Rice showed up at a Pentagon press conference today and warned: “Ladies and gentlemen, nothing is certain in this life. And success in Iraq is not a sure thing.”

Rice was echoing the warning of General David Petraeus that the decline in violence in Iraq is just one sign of progress that remains "fragile and reversible."

Curious how it's only the Old Geezer, Senator Erratic and his token veep who keep insisting that America is winning the war in Iraq. McCain's already thrown a gutter ball on the economy, it'd be terrible if he followed up with another on his pet issue.

Oh, the cynic in me sees this as 1) a statement of the obvious and 2) a lead-in to the messaging that "only John McCain" (trade-mark pending) can guarantee success.

As in, not that weird, "not like us" guy pallin' around with terrorist. (not that there is anything wrong - or racist - about that).
