China has declared a "level 2" weather emergency, a warning normally reserved for typhoons. This time it's for a massive and prolonged heat wave that has settled in over the south and east with cities seeing more than three weeks of continuous 35C plus temperatures.
Is it climate change? No, of course not, everyone knows that's a hoax. Some, however, still believe otherwise but, naturally, they're scientists.
"Human-caused warming sure ups the odds of heat waves like this one," said Jonathan Overpeck of the University of Arizona. The Chinese heat wave "gives a very real face to what global warming is all about," he wrote in an email.
"This is the future. Get used to it," Andrew Dressler of Texas A&M University told The Associated Press by email. "You often hear people say, 'Oh, we'll just adapt to the changing climate.' It turns out that that's a lot harder than it sounds, as the people in China are finding out now."
Meanwhile, on the other side of the Pacific, authorities in San Diego are taking a hard look at what climate change holds in store for their future. Sea level rise. Check. Drought. Check. Wildfires. Check. Flooding. Check. Wildlife migration. Check. Increased demand for and reduced supply of freshwater. Check. Increased demand for and reduced supply of hydro-electricity. Check.
Densely populated centres along the southern California coast are heavily dependent on snowpack melt from the Sierra Nevada mountains. Global warming has put that resource in doubt which has caused cities like San Diego to move to seawater desalination plants and waste water recycling. Yippee!

Harper doesn't believe in climate change. We have had our own disasters, right here in our own country. Harper's greed trumps common sense every time. Harper wants to peddle the dirty Dilbit to China. That country is, most polluted country on the planet. China too has horrendous pollution. Poisoned air so bad, people are warned to stay indoors. People wearing respirators and masks to breathe.
China has polluted much of their farmland and 40% of their water. Dead pigs come floating down a Chinese river. China is buying up Canada's farmland. Harper's FIPA deal with China has, the Chinese in Canada for 31 years. China will need our food crops to feed their people.
The tar sands takes the water from, the Columbia ice fields in Jasper. I used to live there. I was really shocked when, I saw how badly the glaciers were shrinking.
It's as they say. Man is the most destructive animal on earth and, the most stupid one at that.
