Lyin' His Ass Off Steve

Why does Steve Harper lie so damned much?

Steve knows that lying is the new political currency. It pays off big time with his committed supporters, who take pretty much everything he says as gospel, and with those just too dumb or lazy to see through him. Harper, as a student of his American Idols, Bush & Cheney, knows that lies work, if you tell them enough and get them in the media.

Politicians who rely on lies rather than sound policies and the persuasion of leadership are essentially undemocratic. They seek to win by manipulating voters, reaching through to their fears and prejudices and greed. That pretty much describes the schoolyard bully types like our own Steve Harper.

Now I don't expect Steve to come out admitting he's an absolute control freak with a blistering bad temper but his TV spots depicting him as just a humble, placid, regular guy are stomach churning. It's not as though he even wants to be that sort of man, anything but. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig!

The uber-right have embraced this idea that it's okay to pull the wool over the voters' eyes at every turn, in every way. Is it really that much different if you get a vote by lying than if you just straight out buy it? Surely one currency is the same as the other.

For the most part you have some decent posts, but the Bush crap loses you credibility. For starter Bush doesn't do anything, he's to dumb to do anything it's all done by the party nothing more. Cheney on the other hand...no good person can look that evil but I digress, You'll find that any leader worth mentioning was a control freak. Even the Patron saint of Liberals Trudeau was a massive control freak, as was Cretian so that argument is fairly moot as well. I personally have no super love of Harper, but as someone who is good with their money, he's the best choice as I don't want the Nanny state taking more of it away so Joe can go shoot up with clean needles. I believe the only socialist program I truly support is healthcare, and I mean Healthcare. For surgeries and such....not for some guy who took to much blow.

manuel said.... You are dead on. I have not ever understood why people can be so dense as to support one particular political party as if it is the be all and end all especially the leaders of a party in Canada. The Prime Minister should be voted separately from the party. It is too easy for any leader to become Prime Minister by meerly getting a few thousand votes during a party leadership convention. That goes for Premiers as well. It would be interesting to learn how many people from the Alliance Church showed at the Harper leadership convention.

Mound of Sound, you deserve better readership, ones that get the point, that it is profoundly undemocratic to pretend to be someone you're not in an election. If H. gets in again, kiss off the Canada we know and love.
