U.S. Building Largest Windfarm Ever - For Nuclear Weapons Factory

Talk about a letdown.   The good news - the largest windfarm ever in the U.S., capable of generating about 12-megawatts of electricity is under construction in Texas.   The not so good news - it will be used to meet the energy needs of a nuclear bomb factory.

It's called the Pantex Renewable Energy Project.  Pantex, however, happens to be the name of the weapons plant it will serve.

Because, kids, nothing says Green quite like a warehouse full of nuclear weapons.

Well, on the plus side it does say something about the lead pipe practicality of wind power that the most lead pipe practical outfit of all (well, if you ignore the fundamental insanity of their premises) wants to use it. Hardly a bunch of hippies, those nuke makers.

And build it next to a poor community...just saying. Anyong

I'm guessing the choice of windpower was a function of the drought and dwindling reserves of freshwater across Texas. Any other sort of power, thermal or nuclear, requires access to enormous volumes of water for steam generation and cooling. Windpower is an obvious default solution.

The largest wind farm in the U.S. (and the world) is the Alta wind energy center in California at 1,020 MWs.

This is the largest *federal* wind energy farm.
