Washingtonians approved same-sex marriage and marijuana decriminalization last night. This won't exactly trigger a stampede of Vancouverites to Seattle, it's already effectively decriminalized in Vancouver, but it might draw tourists from other states.
I take encouragement from little steps like these that show progressivism is growing next door and it will keep growing. Much of the "no" vote comes from angry, old white people - emphasis on old. They're on their way out and will have a dwindling effect in future elections.
Romney just might have been angry old white America's last hurrah. It's estimated that the odds shift in the Democrats' favour by about 1.5% each election due to America's rapidly transforming demographics.
South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham grasps the dilemma confronting the Republican Party.
“If I hear anybody say it [we lost] because Romney wasn’t conservative enough
I’m going to go nuts. We’re not losing 95 percent of African-Americans
and two-thirds of Hispanics and voters under 30 because we’re not being
hard-ass enough.”
The civil war now expected to consume the Republican Party and Congressional Repugs will not only be fun to watch, it could also give Obama and Team Dems the chance they were denied in the past four years to actually pass legislation with some support from reformationist Republicans like Graham.

Not all angry old white people would vote No. Some ancient `60s hippies still are progressive.
Yes, Al, but that's because we're not the angry type. It's in our nature to say "why not" instead of "no."
I'm interested to know what is old to you MOS?
Well Anon, I'll fall back on Mark Twain when he said, "Most men die at 27, we just bury them at 72."
