We can set the Doomsday clock back 30 seconds.
One thing I learned in my war studies course from King's College, was that the greatest cause of war is inadvertence. Nations that don't really desire war can simply back into them.
This is particularly true in the case of major-power transitions, what is sometimes called "Thucydides Trap."
