Just Sayin'

When you've just tossed your president and appoint an interim president to govern in his place pending elections, don't choose somebody who shows up for work dressed like this:

That, kids, is the standard uniform of an old-school, KGB thug - the dark, crew-neck sweater and the unmistakable black leather coat. Putin's got dozens in his closet from the good old, USSR days.    In that part of the world that costume is a symbol, it has meaning, and the meaning ain't good.

Congratulations, interim president Oleksandr Turchynov.  Try to go easy on the dissidents before the March elections.

Good luck to Ukrainian people. There has been too much destruction and many deaths already.

Did parliament not appoint the interim president? I thought parliament was sympathetic to the demonstrators.

No one in the MSM is talking about the fact that these demonstrations have been largely led by the Ultra-Right nationalists. If you ask me the Ukrainian people have jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

But it is their party and they can cry if they want to.

The "troubles" in the Ukraine SOMEHOW occurred when Putin was distracted with Olympics.
It would be interesting to see what happen when he is free to regain the focus...

I agree, KC. When a country becomes as destabilized as the Ukraine today there are no end of opportunities or players waiting to exploit them. Fascism could easily replace the ousted regime, especially when the country's economic woes slam down.

We in the distant west have a habit of misreading these things. Look how many thought the ouster of Morsi would give Egypt a second chance at secular democracy.

Live and learn, except we can't quite get that second part right.

Tense, tense, tense. Putin is ruthless and effective. Far more than his neo-liberal enemies.
Whatever he does next, the western world will not like.
