Asian Tiger Prawns Now In Gulf of Mexico

No one knows just how they got there or who is responsible but massive Asian tiger prawns have reached the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and they're spreading along the U.S. south coast.

Normally I worry about invasive species. But, first off, these are edible. We'll overfish them, right? We wiped out the cod, we can do these pissants.

Second, we should be glad anything at all is alive in the Gulf of Mexico. Between oil spills and toxic algae blooms from the fertilizer runoff . . .

Actually, PLG, they're more than edible- they're awesome. Unfortunately most tiger prawns are farm fish, raised in rice paddies, and often kept alive by some pretty wicked, not safe for human consumption, antibiotics. These are wild - albeit subject to whatever contamination they get from the Gulf waters.
