New Fighter Marks Chinese Military Advance


It's called the Jian 10, a new jet fighter of Chinese design, powered by Chinese engines and armed with Chinese missiles.

The official Xinhua news agency described the Jian-10 as "a decisive step by China toward becoming an aviation power."

China has long been considered an arms buyer (mainly Russian products) but it has recently been transformed into a manufacturer of advanced weaponry from an indigenous Chinese nuclear attack submarine to AWACs-type early warning aircraft to a variety of warships, even cruise missiles.

The Jian-10 even bears some resemblance to the latest and greatest European fighter, the Typhoon shown here:
